My brother, Jesse, and Sam have been friends since the third grade. Their friendship is simple, “There is no wow factor,” says Sam of their 16 years together.
The two spent their childhood riding bicycles in the summer, going to each other’s houses, eating burgers, and selling lemonade. Typical suburbanites.
“What’s changed over the years?” I ask them.
“Before we communicated more, now we have less time. We also play less sports,” says Sam.
“But we can trust that there is never any drama,” says Jesse.
Sam agrees saying that Jesse is trustworthy and responsible. “We’re happy doing uninteresting things together,” says Sam.
“We make time for one another,” says Jesse. “Everyone has an hour or two a week to spare.”
Though the two share that they are similar in some ways and different in others, they never hesitate to reach out to one another.
“Do you think that you make each other better?” I ask.
“Yes, of course,” they both say.
“We are like family,” Jesse says.
